MONTHLY PUBLIC PROGRAMS

HIKE WITH A NATURALIST

1st Thursday of Every Month
9 a.m.–11a.m.

Our first Thursday of the month hike for those members and nonmembers who prefer to hike in a group. Join a professional naturalist and discover some of the flora and fauna of the local region. We will meet at the Mt. House before carpooling/travelling to nearby preserves and parks for the day's hike.
This program is free; all are welcome.

WEEKEND HIKE WITH A NATURALIST

Every Saturday at 10 a.m. (except Trail Work Saturdays)
Join our Resident Naturalist for a themed hike each weekend. A fun and informative way to explore the Preserve. Themes will be announced each week on our Facebook page.
This program is free; all are welcome.

TRAIL WORK SATURDAYS

2nd Saturday of Every Month
9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Join us in our efforts to improve and maintain the trail system on the Mountains. Every month volunteers leave a lasting impression on the Preserve and have fun doing it. Organized and led by VOF and PATC.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS

Old Homes of the Bull Run Mountains   (10 a.m.—12 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2017)
Humans have always had a relationship with these mountains, from Native Americans crossing the gap, to the Chapmans building their mill. We'll go back through time and visit some of the Preserve's key historic sites as we learn about the mountains' human history. All ages.


BUDDING NATURALIST CAMP

July 24th—July 28th, Monday—Friday
9am—12pm

At this week-long camp, young children will be exposed to the outdoors and wildlife. They will explore life on the Bull Run Mountains through a series of discovery hikes, frog and salamander searches, snake viewing, stream exploration, nature crafts, and games. Ages 4-6.
Pre-registration is required.

Summer Nature Camp

Session 1: July 17th—July 21st, Monday—Friday
Session 2: July 24th—July 28th, Monday—Friday
9am—4pm

BRMC invites your child to spend an adventurous week interacting with the natural world. Each day we will focus on different groups of plants and animals on the Bull Run Mountains. Campers will add to their understanding of natural systems through hikes, stream walks, snake handling (only if desired), frog and salamander catching, bird watching, butterfly and insect collecting, crafts, and games. Ages 7-12.
Pre-registration is required.
BRMC Members: $250/ Non-members: $300

CHESAPEAKE WATERSHED WORKSHOP

July 31st—August 3rd, Monday—Thursday
9am—4pm

BRMC will be offering an educational workshop for youth focused on the conservation of rivers and streams that flow into the Chesapeake Bay. We will explore headwater streams on the Bull Run Mountains, go downstream on Little Bull Run, and visit Turkey Run National Park. At each location students will perform stream monitoring, vegetation analyses, and stream habitat and riparian buffer evaluations. Ages 13-18.
Pre-registration is required.
